Some experts say that the greatest benefit of gymnastics training for children is physical: the amazing power, the unparalled balance, and injury preventing agility and grace. Other experts say that the benefit is to the mind: the perserverance, the poise, the confidence, the attention to detail, and the concentration. Which is right? Our experts know.
The answer is without a doubt, both. Few sports provide the variety of benefits that gymnastics does. Strength and flexibility are physical attributes that are beneficical in all sports. From enhanced performance to injury prevention, the benefits of gymnastics are numerous. Gymnastics is often a cross-training sport for martial arts, swimming, diving, dance, and more. The discipline, self-confidence, individual responsibility, and sense of teamwork learned are positive attributes in this endeavor and will last a lifetime. In fact, professional gymnastics training is a requisite for all kids who want to learn how to become the best they can be in life. Sound gymnastics training is for all children.
Cheerleading is a great sport for your child to be involved in. It allows them a chance to learn and refine valuable motor skills and involves strength, motivation, physical fitness, dedication and endurance. Basic requirements are teamwork, athleticism, training and conditioning. Cheerleading also helps kids break out of their shell and gives them a chance to better know and work with their peers.
To fully appreciate cheerleading, one must fully understand every aspect of the sport. The basic requirements of cheerleading include: jumps, dancing ability, cheer performance and memorization, tumbling experience, and stunting and tossing techniques. Besides the athletic benefits of cheerleading, you will meet new friends, learn new techniques, cheers and jumps and be instructed on how to perform them safely.
Important Note for Parents: At least 332 colleges offer cheer scholarships of various amounts and some cover all fees, tuition and books. The number has been steadily rising in recent years.
Gymsport offers recreational classes for the preschooler and school age athletes in a 40 week program format. The 40 week program is split into monthly sessions of 4 weeks each. It is highly recommended that you sign your child up for the whole 40 week session, but we understand that each family has different activities in addition to gymnastics or cheerleading, so you can also sign up on a month-to-month basis. All we ask for is a 30 day written notice of your intention to withdraw from the class so that we can fill it with another athlete who might be on the waiting list.
